Flinders Street Station

Flinders Street Station

In Australia we’ve just had a 5 day weekend due to ANZAC day and Easter falling on the same dates. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to spend our week down in cold Melbourne for the last days of the International Comedy Festival and to get in some general sight-seeing. We went down last December for a sci-fi convention (’cause we’re nerds, yo) and we enjoyed Melbourne so much that we’ve needed an excuse to come back. This time we got 2 and 1/2 days to fully explore and take in all the sights of this beautiful city.

Happy Birthday Card 1

Birthday Card!

Whenever I get the chance and there’s enough time, I always try to make cards for people’s birthdays. For me, making one is a little more personal than a standard Hallmark card and it also gives me an excuse to practice drawing. On Sunday it was my Nan’s birthday and I wanted to make a card that tested my skills a bit more.

Tumblr Posts from March

Tumblr Posts from March

Does anyone else like using the mass-editor part of Tumblr? I find I love using it to review what pictures I’ve posted over the months and I wish I could collect more data from it, like the number of items you gave a particular tag. Part of my reason for starting my tumblr blog was to use it as a place to store inspirational/beautiful images instead of clogging up my pictures folder (which I need to go through and post some things from!).

For the last couple of months though, I’ve found myself more interested analysing what I’ve been posting and finding particular themes, colours and styles that I’ve been tagging. I’ve definitely been noticing that my posts have certain trends in them, for example I find that for some months I’m more likely to post pictures with particular colours one month than I am the next. So I thought I’d start analysing month by month, seeing what are the main traits of my month’s posts.

Canon Lens

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

I’ve been meaning for some time to look into getting a new lens for my Canon DLSR. Ever since I’ve got it, I’ve used the kit lens, which have served me well, but sometimes just don’t make the mark. Over the past couple of days I’ve been doing some research and this morning was the big day!

I’m now the proud owner of a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II fixed lens!

It’s been a struggle to resist unpacking it all at work today, even though I did open it up and pull at the instructions (which I will never again be able to fold back to its original size). Tonight I finally got to test it out!

Supanova 2011

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

Supanova LogoSupa-stars, comic/anime stalls, card-games and cosplay galore, that’s what Supanova is all about. I know it’s been over a week since Supanova in Brisbane but I figured better late then never. For those of who not in the know, go and check out their site here.

The first time I heard about Supanova was way back when I was in high school and my then-boyfriend told me about this ‘convention with anime’, so of course I was immediately interested. This is the 3rd time I’ve been and while we didn’t see any supa-star guests this year, I think we still had a great time despite a few hiccups.

I can haz blog?

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

Well it seems that I can! Hello and welcome to another little part of the web!

I’m Tash, a short blonde haired girl living in Brisbane, Australia and currently working as a graphic/web designer. You check out my portfolio site here. I also have a Twitter and Tumblr account which you can go and have a gander at.

So why am I starting up this blog? Well there’s a few reasons behind that. One reason is that I want to play around and get used to using WordPress and learning to customise it. As a web designer I like to play around with this kind of stuff and I think this is a good opportunity. Don’t worry though, I promise I won’t be changing the theme every 2 seconds, it’s more of a refresher thing for me should I ever need to work with other sites built in WordPress.

My second reason is to practice writing. For some time I’ve been meaning to start some writing projects that I’ve had ideas for, however I’ve held myself back because I know that I’m not the best writer on the block. Because I know that becoming a decent writer means writing all the time, I figured a blog of some sort would help in some way.

Lastly, and probably the main reason behind it all, it to get things that I’ve be thinking about and work that I’ve created out there. I’ll be posting about new work I’ve done, things I’ve bought, places I’ve been and the like. I love the idea on getting feedback for these things too, like a diary that talks back :P

So that’s the agenda for this little blog. More posts coming soon!.
