Chicken Co-op by RAAD

Chicken Co-op by RAAD

There are a lot of items in the creative industry that are constantly redesigned. For example there are millions of designs for chairs ranging in colour, shape, texture and size. It’s the same deal with tables, lamps, stationary, booklets and other similar everyday objects.

Every now and then though I come across something where I think “Wow, who knew you could design something like that for [insert item type here]“. I figure I should share some of these designs I find. I discovered this a couple of weeks ago while going through my RSS feeds. It’s the Chicken Co-op by RAAD.

Favourite Artists – Sylvia Ji

Sylvia Ji - Maria

Sylvia Ji - Maria

Over the weekend I decided that I should showcase artists/designers that act as the inspiration for my own personal artwork (I need to start drawing more again!). I have a few in mind I’d like to feature over the next couple of weeks and then whenever I find one after that.

Sylvia Ji is an LA artist that I discovered last year while perusing the Semi-Permanent speakers of the 2010 Melbourne Conference. I was instantly awestruck by her work and soon found myself trawling through all of the galleries on her website. Her style is very distinctive and different to what I’ve seen before which I believe is why it sticks with me and why she was the first artist that came to mind for this post.

Kaki Hurai - Oysters

So last Wednesday was my birthday and I’m now a ‘mature’ 22 year old :D ! I was out of ideas as to where to have my party (I wanted to have more of a dinner get-together thing) so I asked a friend about it. She suggested that I should have my dinner at a restaurant that I’ve always wanted to try but have never been to: Sono Restaurant.

Comparsion of Lady Gaga's songs Bad Romance and Judas

Comparsion of Lady Gaga's songs Bad Romance and Judas - click to full view

Lady Gaga is my dirty little secret. Behind closed doors I’ll happily sing along to her songs, watch her music videos and read her twitter posts. She’s like an addiction and from what it seems I’m not the only one, because a few friends have told me the same thing.

When she released her new song Judas on YouTube, I ended up watching it over and over again. I took in every detail of it and I ended up having the song stuck in my head for days. As I was singing it to myself, I began to realise that I was replacing parts of the song with lyrics from Bad Romance. I’ve been known to do this with songs before, however the more I thought about it the more it seemed that Judas was sped up version of Bad Romance with new lyrics. I decided to see if this was the case by graphing and analyzing the two songs side by side.

April Inspiration Collection - click to full view

Another month has gone by which means it’s time for a round-up of my inspiring images. It feels like I posted some of these on my Tumblr blog ages ago even though April seemed to fly right past me.

So lets have a look at what themes/trends I can find :)

Lumia: art | light | motion

Lumia Exhibition

I’ve really wanted to see the exhibition “Lumia: art | light | motion” at the State Library of Queensland since I saw it advertised at a bus stop and because we had another long weekend it was the perfect opportunity to go check it out. The reason that I was so keen about seeing it was that one of the creators, Gavin Sade, was my lecturer for my main course units during university. I had seen lots of his conceptual sketches as well as videos of the final pieces and now I had the chance to actually go and interact with these projects and test them out for myself.

Federation Sqaure

So this is the second post of my long weekend Melbourne trip, you canĀ read the first part here. It seemed appropriate to start with a picture of Federation Square that’s across the road from Flinders Street Station (first picture in my last blog). Unlike my last post that was a old historical and architectural buildings bonanza, I think this one is more about modern Melbourne – the new developments and the current events going on in the city.
